Contractors are dissatisfied with the course taken by County East in not putting up to tender the additions to the Wuipoua Bridge, They urge that they have not only in their possesion the plant requisite for the rapid construction of such a work, but also that they command skilled labor which is not available elsewhere. ' There is some reason to believe that the Council b. as made a mistake in taking this work into its own hands, and even now at the eleventh hour it would be well if the ordinary course of putting the work up to tender were adopted. The County connot afford to tread even on contractors toes without urgent cause, and we fail to see in the present instance any public advantage to be derived by the exceptional course which has been decidod upon,

We have received from Mr Charleß Golder of Waipawa the following eccentric communication:—" Dear Sir,—Perhaps you have no more time nor interest to examine or contend with my trouble, aB I have to examine or contend with other troubles of less magnitude, The world and all things belonging to it are but trifling troubles to the oneß I have to contend with, and I wait to see another trouble to contend with before the close of the year—the trouble of death and resurrection, and hereafter fire from Heaven. When you see these things coming to pass beware of the spirit of darkneßß, who will advise you to go out to either shoot or drown yourself, and do as I do, strive with tho Bpiric, and if he overcomes you, you are a fool of a greater magnitude than I, spending our life in ooutending with trouble. But such is nature, auch is the will of God and cannot be otherwise.
