TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the. Carter-ton-Highway Board was held on Saturday at the Council Chambers, Carterton. Present—Messrs. B. Boys (Chairman), E. Dorset, H. Braithwaite, W. Parker, N. Grace,, J. Reynolds, H. K. Bunny, and Gallon. The minutes of the previous meeting. also of the late special meeting, were read and confirmed, The treasurer's report was read, shewing a debtor balance of .£56 18s 7d; receipts sinco last moating, £l9O, The balance sheet up to September 27th. shewed the indebtedness of the various Wards as follows: -No, 1 Ward, £7B 12s 9d; No. 2 Ward, £57 15s2d; No, 2 Ward, £lB 15s Id; No, 4 Ward, £47 10s 4d; No. 5 Ward, £l9 6s sd; No. 6 Ward, £34 2s; No, 7 Ward, £43 9s 3d; main road account, £42 4s sd; total amount, £332 15s sd, Credit Account—No 8 Ward, £147 lis: General expenses, £l3l 6s lOd: Bank NiZ. £5618s 7d; total amount, £335 15s sd. Letters were read from Mr King, engineer, forwarding particulars of bridge to be erected in Dalefield road, Sundry accounts amounting to £B3 18s were passed for payment,
Tenders were received for the erection of a bridge in Dalefield road from Mr Zabell, LI 14 6s; and A. McLeod, LI2O 7s. After some discussion it was moved by Mr H. R. Bunny andseconded by Mr J. Reynolds, That owing to tenders being excessive, that specifications be left in the hands of Messrs Gallon and Booth to call for fresh tenders, and accept the same on conditions that the limit be not exceeded. Mr Anderson attended to ask the Board to take steps to keep the ford open across the Waiohine at Woodside. The chairman pointed out that at the present time they had no funds available, but if L 5 or L 6 would meet the case he would say the Board might consider the case,
It was resolved that the application stand over, Mr H. R. .Bunny moved and Mr N. Grace seconded, That the Railway Department be applied to in the matter and be reported at next sitting '
Messrs L. flix and A, Maunsell attended to call the attention of the Board to the fact that the water from two creeks was finding its way down drains dug on Carr's late contract (work done by County Council) thoreby floodiag their land to an extent that they have never before suffered,
The .Chairman, suggested that the deputation should write to the County Council, calling the Council's attention to the fact.
Mr Nix suggested that tho Board should call attention of the Council to the matter; as the water was damaging roads under the Board's control,
It was moved by Mr H.R. Bunny, seconded by Mr H. Braithwiite, That the Board apply to the County Council. Mr Gallon wished the swing bridge over the Mungatari to be replaced. The money was in hand through subscription but he wished the tenders to be called for through the Board, and requested that tenders for the same be advertised in the Greytown paper.— Carried.
Mr H. R. Bunny moved, and Mr N. Grace seconded, That settlers having fences erected across the road from Gladstone to Waitara be asked to remove the same, but that they may erect gates.—Carried,
Mr H. R. Banny also moved, That 37' chains of same road be formed and that tenders be called for same before next meeting of Board.—Carried.
This terminated the. business of the meeting.
