Wairasapa North District Handicap of 200 Guineas. Tho following horses are nominated Payton's Beetroot, aged. Hogg's Mullock, 2 years, Beetroot is by Bushman, out of Annie Dale. G. dam, Hospital, by Dointion, out of Honorarium. Mullock is by Catterpillar. out of Cabbage Tree. G. damPahiatua, by Deferred Payment, out of Money Lender.
Training Notes' Beetroot has had several preliminary canters oyer the Theatre course, Kurupuni triangle, &c, Ho stripped well, and showed plenty of pluck and endurance, but, owing to the roughness, finished up just a trifle •warm, flis trainer tells me that on one part of the course, during the first canter, Bqetroot nearly stumbled through running ovor a scabby sheep, but is all right now. _ Mullock has done several trial gallops with his stable companion Ex-Inspector (who is cutting out the running). A lot of confidence has been expressed in him, but the knowing ones fancy his chances are small, as he has never performed in any big event before. The betting is not very active. 7to 4 has been offered on Beetroot, bat I cannot hear of any bets being taken, Hotspur,
