MR BUTTONS CASE.
We are requested to publish the following statement giving the nbHolutely correct version of Mr A, P, Sutton's case, This information does not come to us through either Mr Bebtham or Mr Buchanan, but it reaches ua from a very reliable 60iuce altogether outside this district:—Mr A. P. Sutton, sheep inspector at Blenheim, was removed from that district by Sir John Hail in 1882, and was stationed at Masterton with instructions to strictly carry out the provisions of the Sheep Act for stamping out scab in the Wairarapa district. In May 1883 scab was discovered or Mr Meredith's sheep in the Whareama and this with the departmental arrangements rendered it expedient for the benefit of the public service that a change of inspectors should bo made. Mr Sutton was informed that he would be moved to cnother district without loss of salary or position. He however, distinctly
refused to remove, and consequently his appointment lapsed. It is not correct that anyone whomsoever in any way, influenced the decision arrived at to raovo Mr Sutton from the Wairarapa.
