The _ election oontest for Wairarapa North is, writes the Standard, becoming very interesting. Mr W. W. McCardle has been the first to come before the electors by addressing a crowded public meeting in the Theatre Royal, and explaining his views. In this contest we have already expressed ourselves as being favorable to the return of Mr George Beetham, who for many years has given his loyal and devoted services to the electors of the northern district as their representative in Parliament, and who has proved a most able and useful member. We have not always agreed with some of Mr Beetham's political views but ou the whole, his action as a representative ot tho Wairarapa.North district has been so satisfactory, and his personal character, ability and experience, stand so high, that we would gladly see him re-elected,

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Juvenile Foresters, Court" Little John," was held in ths Foresters' Hall, Masterton, last night, when the following officers were eleoted: 0.H., A. Blinkhorne; 5.0. R., VV. Fellingham; ' S.W., M. Eserson; J.W..W. Westbrook; 5.8., H. Westbrook; J. 8., T. Spackman; Secrelary, A, Baillie. Tho Post says the electors for Wairarapa North and South seem moro likely to be inQuonced by a personal question between Mr Sutton, the ox Sheep Inspector, and the late members, Messrs Beetham aud Buchanan, than by any political considerations. . Mr McCardle paid a doubtful complement to bis supporters the other day, when he told them "That what they wanted was brains." His supporters like" Happy Hottentots" acknowledged the tribute paid to their capacity by loud cheers.

The following is the Wairarapa footbal team to play against combined Wellington on Saturday next:—Beard, Sommerville, Webster, Wenham, Humph™, Cameron, McMaster. W. Many of the navvieß employed on the railway works were present, and Mr Beetham promised, whether elected or not, to make full enquiries into their grievances, aud to assist them to obtain redreßS as far as lay in his power, On the motion of Mr Eapp, seconded by Mr K.
