GREYTOWN CRICKET CLUB.

The ahnualjineeting of the above Club 'washeldafcjthe;Councii: Chambers on Thursday. eyeningK There was a very good .attendance, and Mr Ouff was voted to the chair. •'• ■ The minutes of the last annual meeting and a special meeting were read and confirmed,'

The balance sheet was read showing total receipts £l7 and expenditure £l6 4s 6d, assets 130 and liabilities £9 3b,-. . The Secretary's report, was read as follows;—" I have the honor to submit for your consideration the following reI port of the past season, In doing so I regret that I cannot show a more favorable balance sheet. No doubt this is mainly owing to the late Secretary Mr Eonaldson leaving the district in the middle of the season and no regular successor'being appointed for some months during which time subscriptions were neither collected nor canvassed for. The total income from this source was only £l4 10s, which sum must be doubled to enable the Committee to carry on the Club successfully. The late Secretary left a list of unpaid subscriptions of which £6lls still remain unpaid, and cannot be included in the'assets. The gross receipts foivthe year are' £l7, for the previous year they were £3l 9s. An effort was made at the dose, of. the season to pay' Off the existing liabilities of the Club. In order to raise the funds, a some was held on Easter Monday, but through not being supported by the cricketers it unfortunately proved a failure, the sub-committee having to make up a considerable sum to pay expenses. With reference to the matches played during the year, I think we may congratulate ourselves, for out of eight matches we were only, once fairly beaten, and then'by a combined Wellington team. We defeated the Bohemian Club twice, iW therston once, and Masfcerton once, and drew a match each with Featherston and Waihenga, both of which were certain wins. Mr Eonaldson heads the list of bowling averages, and Mr W. _ Say well the batting averages. During the past year we have had the misfortune to lose several of our best players, who have left the district, notably, Messrs Day, Saywell, and Ronaldson. The loss of the latter to the Club is irreparable. As captain and secretary he was its mainstay for years, and I think the club should acknowledge his services in some way. Although we are starting tho season rather heavily handicapped, I have no doubt that with careful and judicions management we will clear off all debts and maintain our position as the premier country club in the Wellington district.,, J, Tocker, Hon. Secrotary."

The report and balance sheet were adopted, on the motion of Mr Webster, seconded by Mr Varnham. The election of officers was then proceeded with. Mr John Tully was elected President, Mr J. P. Russell Vice-President, and Mr J. Tocker re-elected Secretary and Treasurer. ■, ; The- following committee was then elected:—Messrs Somerville, Webster, Cuff, Udy, Hirschberg, Maguire, and H. Hawke. Mr Webster was elected practice captain, and Mr D. P. Player custodian. Messrs Somerville, Webster, and H. Hawke wereelected a match committee. Several new members were here elected. :It was resolved, That members under the age of twenty be admitted for ss, and that tickets be issued to each member which will admit them to all matches played in Greytown, ■ ; It was resolved that in consideration of Mr Eonaldson's fast services that he be made a life member of the club, It was resolved, That Messrs Tocker, Varnham, and Webster be a committee to carry out' entertainments for the purpose of raising funds to pay off last years liabilities. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing officers. It was.decided that the season open on Saturday, the'2oth inst., with a match married v. single, and that the regular practice evenings be on Wednesday and Saturday. A vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman.
