FOOTBALL.
A. football match was played at Greytown on Saturday between fifteen of the Te Ore Ore natives and the Youth's Club at Greytown. We are unfortunately unable to give the names of the visitors. Tho home team being: .Back, Hirsehberg; half-backs Burch, and f. Knell ; quarters, J. Humphries (Captain), and G. Humphries; third quarter, J.Terry; forwards, Varnham, G. Terry, J. Beard, A. Beard, W, Humphries, J. Hobman, W. Mitchell, Lewis, and U. Udy, The match was to have started at 3 p.m., but the visitors did not put in an appearance until after i o'clock, so that the home, team thought they were rot coming, and had been playing a hard half hour's game scratch match with the senior club. The practice was stopped when the visitors airived, and the team stripped at once. It was evident that the Natives were much the heaviest team. It was decided to play two spells of 20 minutes as it was so late. Greytown won the toss, and elected to kick off, the visitors taking the benefit of the wind. As soon as the ball waskicked off, a determined scrimmage took place which was the order of the first spell. Hirsehberg made a good run for Greytown, but the Native back, Murray, with a grand drop sent the ball behind Groytown's line. Greytown again kicked off, and Hirsehberg again made ; a run, but was well gi'assed by an opposing back, J. Humphries shortly made a good bit of ground with a dribble, but the backs of-the visiting team were not to be denied, and.Greytown was agaiu forced downifronfa long kick from field. The VisitoSwero playing a grand forward game, and their back, play was very good particularly the fine drop* of Murray, full back. P. Knell got the ball shortly before time was called, and made a good run, but was well grassed by a Native. Time was shortly after called without a score on cither side although Greytown had been forced down twice. Mastertonkicked off and the;ball was well returned by Burch and was followed by the Greytown forwards, but Dick (Te Ore Ore) made a grand run and gained a lot of ground before he was well collared by G. Humphries, A. Beard here distinguished himself with some excellent forward play, as did J. Humphries as quarter, who" was working well all through. 0. Udy at this stage made the dribble of the day and took the ball right down to the corner, where it went into touch, and Joe. Terry, backing up well succeeded in getting the ball out quickly, touched in,and pushed through and got first try .for Greytown. \Hirschberg. took the kiok,j-but, being j bad,-, angle, failed. the ball well down, and J. Terry gettinef the ball got a run and deliberately put the ball on the ground with both hands behind the posts. A Native ran over him and knocked bira down. The umpire for the visitors, in the face of every on'o that saw the try, disputed, but eventually allowed it. Hirschberg took the kick and placed a goal to the credit of his side; No aido was then called, Several of the visitors distinguished, themselves, but. we could not catch their names, but they played a very good game.
