THE HONS. W. KOLLESTON AND J. BRYCE AT KAWHIA.

Auckland, February S.

The Hon. J. Bryce and Hon. W. Rolleston and party landed at Kawhia on Friday evening, and were well received by the natives, who brought numerous presents of food. On Saturday Captain Faivchild buoyed the channel of Kawhia, harbor, and found that he could go in and out with the Stella at dead low water. Mr Percy Smith, the Chief surveyor, planned a township for laying out. The Hon. j.: Bryce had an interview with Honi Wetere, tho principal chief of the district, and tho latter went on board the Stella in the evening, and had a long talk with the Defence Minister. (Japtain Fairchild sent up a number of rockets, which greatly pleased the natives. On Sunday the Hon. J. Bryce and Hon. W. Rolleaton rode round to Aotea and. saw a large district, with which they were well pleased. All on board tho Stella were gratified with the beautiful and fertile appearnce of the Kawhia district. This morning the Ministerial party came on overland to Alexandria, accompanied- by the special correspondent of the Herald. The Stella, with the Under-Secretary of the Native Department, T. W. Lewis, on board, sailed for Onehunga, arriving at 10 in the evening.

Wellington, Tuesday. The Government have received irifni> mation regarding Kawhia, that everything had been satisfactorily arranged On the approach of the steamer Stella, the Maoris gave three cheers, and on landing the party were greeted with a Maori welcome. One of the leading chiefs pointed out the boundaries of the town and a Burvey it proceeding with the natives as chammen, The depth of water on the bar it 18 feet.
