CARTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committed was held on Monday evening, all members being present, The minutes of the ordinary and two spooial meetings were read and confirmed, and the balance to thn credit of tho Committee reported at £2 _l2a 2d. The Chairman reported that the capita'ion of 110 duo. Un the 31st ult. would probably be paid in a few days which would put them in funds. He also stated that ho had received two telegrams from Mr Dorset stating that Mr Samuel would be there to take charge of the school on the morrow. Mr Rupert Fairbrother wasappointed Secretary at a salary of ilO per annum, and was directed to obtain the balance sheet for the past year and box, boohs, and papers, belonging to the Committee and have them present at each mooting, An account to Mr Pxice of £3l2s was pawed fur .payment, when funds were in hand subjeotioMr Samuel certifying to its correctness, -A letier was read from Mr Majliew dated from Wellington, declining to furnish a balance sheet or afford any information to the committee until be had the permission of his solicitor, mi which the following resolution whs pnßueil"Thnt copies of the resblntinns passed by the Committee nt the special meetings held on. the 29th and 30ih ulti: witb Mr MayliewV;letters to the Committee, and full details of the
oirourostanoos leading to the samo being hold and. passed, be forwarded to- the, Education Board, with an.expression of opinion from this Committed that Mr. May hew, isnot afit person to have the custody and supervision of children, and that he should no longer be retained on th# staff of teachers in the employment of the Board."
With/regard to the assistant teacher asked for, the chairman said lie had.been led to understand their wants would be favorably considered by tlio Board, but at present tbey were rather short of teachers. It was •resolved that two members,of the commil tee should; be elected in rotation to. visit the sehool from month to month, the ohairman and Mr Oole being appointed for the current month. Just at the close of the meeting .Mr Samuel, who had been unable to attend earlier* camo into the school and intimated that he would take charge the first thing in the morning, He had Been Mr Dorset in passing through. Wellington and had been informed thit their requirements with regard to an increase on the teaching siftißf would reoeire favoiable notiu from *h» Board, Thiy were rather limited is reipectsd their iupernamary staff, but two gentlemen had qualified from the Normal school, and he had undertaken to afford any.'information in his power, The meeting then terminated,
