PRIZE FIRING AT CARTERTON.
The firing for the gold and silver medals presented by Captain Snodgrass in the first class, and the prizes given by Lieutenants Bennett and Crawford, and Color-Sergeant Campin in the second class, were fired for by members of the Carterton Rifle Corps at the Taratahi range on Saturday. Every parade since the commencement of the year counted one point in both classes, but Corporal T. Eeid, in spite of his beinpt behind with his parades, secured the gold medal among the Ist division by his actual firing, while Sergeant Clifton took first place in the lower class on like terms. The ranges for 2nd class were 3, 4, and 5 hundred yards, and those for Ist class 4,5, and 6. The day was bright and dear, the only objection being that the sun was almost too bright on the target at the start, The terms were five shots apiece, Wimbledon target. Messrs Pettitt and Gole acted as scorers. We append tabulated result of match, which commenced about 12.30 p.m.:—
