London, Feb. 22. Consols have declined, and are quoted to-day at 100 J. The total reserve in the Bank of England is £12,400,000. Bank rate of discount, 4 per cent.; market rate, 4s. New Zealand securities are unchanged at the following quotations : 6 per cent. 10.40 loan, 105; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 104 ;4| per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 100. Adelaide wheat, ex store, re. mains at 55s and New Zealand ditto at 51a Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 40s; Australian tallow, best beef, 425; best mutton, 48s. Hides, heavy qualities, are in good demand, but light weights have declined £. February 24. The House of Lords has, in accordance with a resolution passed on the 17th instant, nominated the Peers to serve on the Select Committee of inquiry into the working of the Irish Land Act, The Marquis of Salisbury, at whose instigation the motion was passed, refuses to relinquish the projected inquiry, because of the motion tabled by Mr Gladstone in the House of Commons, setting forth that tho proposed action of the Lords is untimely and will defeat the operations of the Land Act andprove injurious to good government in Ireland. This motion is deemed by Lord Salisbury to be a threat to the House of Lords. Melbourne, Feb. 26, The return cricket match between Shaw's All England eleven and eleven of Victoria, was resumed to-day. The Victorians resumed their first innings which closed for a total of 249, Boyle being the highest scorer with 37. The Englishmen then went in, and when the stumps were drawn thoy had put together 201 for the loss of iivo wickets. The following is the full score .-Ulyett, stumped, 38; Solby, caught, 1; Barlow, caught, 19; Bates bowled, 84; Midwinter, caught, 12; Shrewsbury, not out, 3a; Scotton, not out, 2.
