FAUST.
Thr drama of Faust was again presented on Saturday evening to a much better house than on either of the previous occasions, and the frequent and spontaneous applause testified to the satisfaction of the audience with the rendering of the piece._ In Act I, the appearance of Mephiatopheles surrounded by fire was very successful, and the transformation of Faust into a young and dashing cavalier handsomely dressed drew forth great applause, The temptation of Marguerite with diamonds and the flirting of Martha with Mephistopholes, followed by the elopement of that lady with Siebel by mistake, and tile success of the demon's plans were each excellently rendered, and thoroughly appreciated. The songs, "Let us he happy together," " Sweet Spirit hear my Prayer," and the " Soldiers' Chorus," were well sung, the two former especially, and the combat between Faust and Valentine; resulting in the death of the latter, and the triumph of the demon was well given and loudly applauded. The final scene where Mephiatopheles claims and seizes Faußt, bearing him to the lower regions through smoke and fla.ne, was most effective, and brought the drama to a successful close. The whole piece is well mounted and dressed, and, independently of the fact that it is presented by local talent, is worthy of support for the manner in which it is played. The strongest orchestra engaged for any play in the Hall conduojs the musical portion of the entertainment, and oonaists of-five performers, under the leadership, of Herr Lundqtist, Herr Keiseuberg presiding at' the piano, and their playing-waß a treat of itself. The afterpiece consisted of an amusing faroe entitled " Barnum's Ball," which kept the audience laughing for half-an-hour, and sent them home well pleased with the evenings' amusement. To-night Faust will be given for the last time.
