THE BOROUGH SURVEYOR.
(To the Editor Wairaeapa Daily.) Sir,—l see by your report of the proceedings of the Borough Council meeting, that the Town Clerk is to ascertain if Mr Godfrey Russell will accept re-appoint-ment. Sir, this seems to me a very strange proceeding, and for that reason, with your kind permission, I will make a few remarks: Some time back Mr Russell sent in his resignation (which was accepted) because the billet was not sufficiently remunerative. How much he eould charge, and how easily lie charged it, seemed lo be his only study. Now, sir, I think if the appointment iB worth having it is also worth receiving applications for, and I believe among the applicants will be found at least one who will be as competent to perform the duties of that office as that fussy, interfering, and " conscientious" man, Mr G. Russell. I cannot help—as a ratepayer—objecting to these. Cape Horn billets for hangers-on, and selecting one of them and making him have it whether he will or not, I am, &c., Freethinker.
