KURIPUNI HALL.
(To the Editor Wairajuipa Daily,) Sib,—Having learned. that'tbo subject of building a Hall for public purposes was to 1)6 discussed last evening at Kuripuni by a few friends at a social gathering, and having been invited I attended—boMeving that the help of every honest and wellwishing man to the community was needed and ought to be freely and willingly given. I heard the opinions expressed by several spealcers on the subject. I oertainly was glad (althougl; surprised) to hear our .worthy Mayor .giving forth ideas and suggestions which were probably earnestly given, but with which I could not agree. So far as I know the object of the people at this end of the town is to have a hall of their own, free from the control of any other party than their elected trustees and working committee. As first proposed three trustees—men of respectability, having an interest in the place-should be chosen. The best available site should be selected' and legally conveyed .to them by lease, with the right of purchase, at the lowest possiblo' interest, to be dealt with by shares of one pound each.; I see no real j advantage in taking up the Masteiton irust Lands, rather the contrary, as the thing we wish now to avoid we should then be encouraging-viz., putting our-' selves still more' Into; the hands of the Masteiton ring' and under their baneful, influence, I would most strenuously advise, that pending'the next meeting, every .man of the committee do his best to secure the most suitable site, and when obtained continuo to: work till the object sought :(which is unquestionably a gQod P n ®). isj /iclneved on the easiest and most independent principle, I; believe the
thing can-be done. 1 It only roquirea thatall minor differences ■be sot. aside and eaoh . member work with energy and promptitude. 1 External obstructions will; disappear)' and Kuripuni will have its library, ■ reading-room, andpublio hall erected to benefit the youth qf lie present ■ and fiitoe as oak doeß from the; acorn, in time extending ita beaUty far. arid f -wide, lani,&o.i; .Earnest. jKnripimi, 24th Marqhj 1880. ■ ■
