A COMPLAINT.
(To the Editor of the Daily.) Sir,—To-day ft contractor oa the Upper Plain set fire to, a stump opposite my house, within four feet of the door, endangering the house and property. I was sent for from my work, and put it out. Later on in the day he lit a second 'fire, which also endangered the premises, I complained to the Borough Inspector, but he said he could do nothing, because contractors were pormitted by the Council to light fires. I would be glad to know how I and others are to protect ourselves from dangers of this kind. Yours, <fec.,' Charles Dixon. [We advise our correspondent to give notice to the Borough Council that he will hold it responaibla for any damage done by its servants to his property. If what our corresponded alleges is correct, the Council, through its servants, is committing a dangerous, illegal, and unwarrantable act.—Ed, W.D.]
