THE FEATHERSTON RACES.

To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily.

Sir,—l desire to call your attention to the extraordinary management of the above races. . I was engaged by one of the stewards five days previously to aot as one of the gatekeepers. Acting oh this understanding, I went in a pouring rain as I believed to fulfil my engagement as gatekeeper; only to find two gatekeepers employed, and on duty. I then was informed that the Stewards as a body ignored the individual action of their members, and had 'ballotted from' the names of six persons who should- be employed as gatekeepers. I believe I was not the only one deceived. Another remarkable event not on the cards was that those who. first paid for admission received a conversation lozenge ! as a ticket. This continued for some time until the proper tickets reached" the courso,. This was refreshment and amusement combined, for whoever desired to eat their tickets did so. I have not heard whether the Greytowu Band are tnembors of the Young Men's Christian Association. At all events perhaps having.a due conji: deration for commencing the Ifew Year properly they played some of Sankey and Moody's hymn tunes on the Course. I have, <teo,, Somebody. Peatherston, Jan.l, 1880. ■
