MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.

The adjourned meeting of the Fire Brigade was held on Wednesday night at tho Empire Hotel, when the deputation appointed to wait upon the Borough Council reported that, in reply to their application, the Council voted a donation of £3O to the Brigade funds, and that probably the Council would give a further grant beforo long.

Letters were read from Mr E. Mills re fire bell and Mr Asher re Helmets, a discussion ensued as to the uniform to be procured for the Brigade, and a decision arrived at, but the matter was ordered to stand over till funds were procured.

Mr Muir moved Mr T. Dixon seconded that the Secretary he instructed to order forthwith the fire bell-recommend by Mr Mills, together with balance-wheel and necessary fittings.

Mr D, Dixon moved Mr Quick seconded, that a committee consisting of Messrs Girdlestone, Easthope and Muir, be appointed-to procure a site for the erection of an engine house and bell t#wer,

D. Dix°n moved Mr Quick seconded,, that tho same committee bo appointed to canvass the town for subscriptions: in aid of the funds of the Brigade, to act conjointly or separately as required. :/ Four persons proposed at the last meeting were elected members and one proposition of membership received. ' Mr D. Dixon mo/ed Mr Quick seconded, that the hearty thanks of this Brigade be accorded to the Hon Secretary "for the manner in which he lias performed tho duties of liis oftico.

Ilie Brigade meets for practice oil Wednesday night next at 7 o'clock at the engine shed.
