Shipwreck Relief Society.

Dunedin, December 8,

A. large and influential meeting of citizens convened by the Mayor was held this evening, when it was resolved to form a Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand, with headquarters in Dunedin, and branches throughout the colony. Lord Ranfurly was appointed patron, the Premier and the Chief Justice vice-patrons, Mr Justice Williams president, and the Mayor and Mr James Mills as trustees. The committee is to include the city and suburban members and the Hon. G. McLean. An influential committee was appointed to draw up a constitution and rules. Mr W. Belcher, on behalf of the seafaring men, expressed his thanks to the Mayor and others for haring taken the matter up.
