Waikakahi Settlers’ Association.
A meeting of the Waikakahi Settlers’ Association was held in the Morven school on Thursday evening, Mr Beer presiding over a fair attendance. Major Steward was complemented and a hearty vote of thanks passed to him for his successful efforts in the following matters : —Obtaining the Morven recreation reserve ; obtaining a library site in Morv.n ; the decision of the Minister of Lands to grant rebate to the 21-year leaseholders; f o the alteration of the date of the payment of rent; and, by far the most important., the decision of the Minister to appoint a Crown tenant on each Land Board in the colony. Certain sharp practic-s were reported, one regarding binder twine and gome sharp work on the part of a firm towards one of the settlers. Members were of opinion that the me.-tinga'of the Association were the proper places to discuss these matters. It was decided to call a public meeting of ratepayers in the Waihao Biding to consider tho proposed division of the riding on Friday, October 2, 1902, The weather was cold and wintry, hot the meeting was warm and enthusiastic.
