Temperance Meetings.

Mr T. 'V. Glover, whose Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evening meetings we reported in a previous issue, continued his work throughout the week, but was greeted by audiences sadly thinned by the inclement weather.

At Hook on Tuesday evening a fair gathering gave an attentive hearing to the speaker, but the meeting arranged for Hunter on the following night lapsed owing to the heavy rain.

The meetings at Waihao Downs on Thursday and Waikakahi on Friday were sparsely attended, the weather continuing wet. Those who braved the elements were rewarded in listening to the concise arguments fluently put forward by Mr Glover, who wins golden opinions wherever he speaks. The monthly meeting of fthe Nukuroa Band of Hope on Tuesday evening was most successful, the accommodation of the schoolroom being strained to the utmost. Mr W. Roberts occupied the phair. and in an opening address urged those present to even greater efforts in the cause of temperance. The programme was long and extremely interesting, comprising songs, recitations, dramatic sketches, readings, and a rousing speech by the ever ready veteran, Mr G. H. Graham. The managing committee of this Society are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts to make the reputation of Nukuroa Band of Hope as a live institution well deserved. Such an institution is a source of benefit to any district.
