IN MEMORY OP THE MISSING ONE OF THE SEVENTH'S WAIMATE BOYS. They're home again, the brave old Seventh, "Who fought so gallantly, And marched for many weary days Across the far country. But one is missing from their ranks Whose fate I know too well. Like many other heroes brave, At Bothasberg be fell. That dreadful night the pale moon shone Upon their campiDg plaoe, As from their dreams they startled rose, The vengeful foe to face. The charging cattle in their front, Urged on by arily Boer, They face with dash and gallantry, Amid the battle's roar. The Mausers crack, the pompom booms, The maddened oattle flee, And 'midst it all he hears a Voice, " For shelter come to Me." So in the grey and misty dawn The boy who fought so brave, With ma&y heroes pale and cold, Had found a soldier's grave, Yet still I watch where, far away, The sea and sky seem one, In dreamy hope of his return, Though he's for ever gone.
