Ladies' Benevolent Society.
A meeting of the Ladies' Benevolent Society was held on Wednesday. Present Mrs Studholme (President) in the chair, and Mesdames Franklin, Goldsmith, Manchester, Adams, Wilson and Sinclair (secretary).
The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter N>as received from the South Canterbury Hoßpital and Charitable Aid Board calling attention to the fact that the society had paid away in three months the sum of £i 10s to one recipient. Some of the ladies drew attention that the case had been reported in some of the papers that the society had paid away the above amount in the month, which was not the case, and under the painful circumstances surrounding the case, the society was called upon to help more liberally than under ordinary circumstances for relief. It was resolved that the secretary write to the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board thanking tham for their kind letter drawing attention to the case and to explain fully the reason to the Board. One case was left in the visitors' hands to arrange. Mesdames Goldsmith and Wilson were appointed visitors for the month. After passing accounts the meeting closed.
