The monthly meaning of tho Board was bold on Thursday, The following from the Herald’s report will interest Waimate readers :

Mr Barclay a-tked, on behalf of the Waimato High School Board, that this Botrd permit theexamina tion for its scholarships (which are open to all schools in South Canterbury on equal terms) to bo conducted by the Board’s examiners, at the same time and place, and under the same syllabus and conditions, as it? own scholarship examinations. —Agreed to. Three applications were received for the infant mistress-ship at Waitaki, and a selection made. A resolution passed by the meeting of householders at Pleasant Point was received —that the most efficient truant officer in country districts would bo a member of the police force. The Building Committee made the following recommendations on the items submitted to them: — Waituna Creek, as the Committee will do the carting, the contractors to go on as soon us possible ; Hakafcaramea, for assistance in fencing off master s bouse; Hunters for now well (present one full of matted roots of fir trees), were referred to the Building Committee. That £8 be granted to Makikihi for certain repairs; £6 to Waikakahi for gates and stiles. The following tenders wore received, and the lowest recommended to be accepted: —- Glonavy, additions to residence, Norton, £B6 ; Hollamby, £2B 18s. Waitaki Y.S., fencing, etc., Hollamby, £lB 7s ; Hewitt, £l4 10s; Ford, £l3 16s. Waimate, additions to residence, Marriott, £BB ; Hollamby, £93 los ; Botten, £7O (concrete foundation?), £64 11s (wooden piles). ;■' Tbo secretary of the householders’ meeting at Timarn Main forwarded a resolution passed b} r the meeting in favour of the school being marie a district high school. Mr Jackson ana Mr Maslia said “ Hear, hear ” to the motion. Mr Barclay said there was no member of the Board who would not like to see that attained which was asked for. But there was the difficulty that to grant the request would displace the endowed High School that had cost £IO,OOO. Ihe same difficulty has cropped up at Dunedin and elsewhere. It was this difficulty that hound the Department’s hands. The chairman said the Minister had promised that this would be made a question next session.
