The Plague.
Christchurch, May 7.
Dr Mason has been with i lie patient Shields, who is suspected of suffering from plague, and is isolated at the Hospital on the smallpox reserve, three miles from the city. Ur Mason is still carrying on his investigations and will remain with the patient all night. When the diagnosis is completed it will h; sen to the Minister of Health and the result will not be known till he announces it.
Dr Mason is quite satisfied with the arrangements which have been made for the isolation and accommodation of the patient. On Friday, however, he will meet delegates from the interested local bodies in the district to consider what combined action shall be taken in regard tx the erection of a proper hospital for infectious diseases. Dr Mason impresses on the public here that even if the case is one of plague there is abiolutely no danger of an epidemic so long as the householders and local authorities keep their places cleen and vigorously carry on the crusade against rats. Dr Mason is making important experiments to test the relationship between the plague and cats and fowls.
