Father Cleary, editor of the Tablet was presented with a purse of 250 sovs by the Catholics of the colony on Sunday evenicg last at Punedin. Father Cleary has on several occasions visited Waimate, and his many friends of all denominations will be pleased to see his sterling qualities and literary ability recognised in such a handsoaie manner. Captain Jackson, of the Ninth contingent, has been appointed Major. The command "has bpeu offered to Colonel Porter, with Majors Abbott and JBauchop next in command.
