Rifle Shooting.

SOUTH CANTERBURY RIFLE MEETING.

The following are particulars of the rifle meeting to be held in Timaru on March 13th and 14tb The meeting has been arranged with a view to encouraging rifle shooting, and the prizes come out of a special vote made by the New Zealand Government. It is open to all volunteers, rifle club men,l police, civilians,'school cadets, and schoolboys in South Canterbury. 'Cadets and schoolboys will use the Snider carbine‘in the schoolboys’ match, and any-rifle of approved Government pattern' may be used in all the other matches. The totohprfze-tnouhy is £6O.

No. 1: Recruits’ Match—Open to volunteer recruits enrolled during the year ending February 2nd, 1902; 200 yards; 10 shots ; -10 prizes. No. 2; Schoolboys’ Match—Open to i school cadet!) and schoolboys; 200 yards ; 10 shots ; free entry ; prizes, numerous trophies. No. 3 : Independent Vanishing Head and Shoulders— Open to all comers; target exposed three seconds; 200 yards ; saveu shots; nineteen prizes. No. 4; Cover Match, Fixed HeatH and Shoulders—Firer behind Cover rises, delivers fire and returns to cover in three seconds-; nineteen prizes. No. 5: South Canterbury Match, 300 and 500 yards; seven shots at each range ; regulation targets; twenty prizes. No. 6 : Harbour Board Match, 600 and 700 yards; seven shots at each range; regulation targets; nineteen prizes. No. T: Timaru Match, 200 yards kneeling and 500 yards any position; seven shots at each range; regulation targets; nineteen prizes.

The entry fee is only Is for each match, and there are over a hundred prizes to bo competed for.

THE TRENTHAM MEETING.

tn the Ha wires Bay Match at the Trontbmn meeting the following were the Waimate men’s scores, the conditions being ten shots at each of 500 and 600 3 ards ; Stevenson ... 46 42 88 Lindsay ... 48 06 84 Wain ... ... 43 37 80 Wilson 42 29 71 The top score was 95, In the Otago Match, ten shots at 700 yards, Trooper S.
