Workers’ Union.

A general meeting of workers ■called by the Waimate Workers’ Union, was held on Saturday night in the Foresters Hall, Mr Geo. Pearce presiding over a rather small meeting. Mr S. Boreham (secretary) explained the necessity for and the advantages of combination by the working men, and received a patient hearing. Correspondence was read from the Registrar intimating that the union had been registered and the certificate was on the way to Waimate. He also advised the formation of agencies all over the district. Some discussion took place on the matter, and definite action was postponed till a general meeting to be held next Saturday night. Mr Pearce banded in his resignation as President, and Mr T. Brown (treasurer) intimated that he would hand in his at next meeting. . At the request of members present Mr Pearce also decided to hold over his resignation till next meeting. The secretary (MrS.Boreham) resigned his position.
