Mostly About People.
General Babingtoo has accepted the position of Commandant of the New Zealand Forces. General Sir Heetot Macdonald received a stirring welcome from brother Soots and the people generally on his arrival at Melbourne. He is the guest of Lord Eopetoun, the Governor General of the Australian Commonwealth. We very much regret to record the death, after a long illness, of Miss K-. E. Buckley, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs B. A. Buckley, old and respected residents in the Hook district. The deceased had a wide circle of friends, who join in deploring the early death ot a popular young lady and in sympathising with the bereaved family. A very old resident of this district, Mrs D. Gunn, of Hook, passed away on Sunday at the advanced age of 91 years.
Mr W. Priest was in Waimate yesterday, returning to Timaru by the express.
