Band of Hope at Morven.

The programme submitted to the many young people who brayed the weathor to attend the opening meeting of the Band of Hope held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening, was heartily and goodhumouredly received. As a scratch programme as it was termed by the chairman Mr Geo. Dash who explained that the heavier rain at Waimate had prevented the attendance of the larger portion of Waimate helpers, it served to show what an excellent entertainment had been arranged ; and the members of Nuku'roa Society who by their timely though accidentally delayed arrival rescued the programme from failure, gave a good object lesson of what may be achieved by a Band of Hope enthusiastically worked. After the Rev. Watt had opened the meeting with prayer, solos, trios, recitations etc., were given by Messrs Low, Fletcher, Wilson, Peck and Roberts, and Messrs Chas. Wilson, R. Wilson, Roberts, Northcote and Dash.

The Rev. Watt was elected President of the Morven Band of Hope, which it was unanimously resolved to form. Miss Morton as secretary, and Mrs Henderson and Misses Barker, Morton and Faulkner, and Messrs Sheppard, Young and Nelson as committee complete the executive. The next meeting was fixed for October 24, arid a hearty vote of thanks acclaimed to the visitors.

The singing of a verse of " God be With You Till We Meet Again " concluded the inaugural meeting of what promises to be a real live Band of Hope.
