Waimate Temperance Reform Union.
The annual meeting of the above was held in Knox Church Hall on Thursday evening, Mr T. Brown in the chair.
Apologies for absenoe were received from the Rev. A. S. Morrison and Mr G. H. Graham.
The secretary read the report and balance Bheet, the latter showing a email debit balance.
A vote of thanks was passed to the Executive officers, for the efficient manner in which they had carried on the affairs of the Union. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Presi'Uit, Mr T. Brown; vice-presidvuU, Mesrrs G. H. Graham and G. Manchester ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Dash ; assistant secretary, Mr E. B'ljinorman ; roll secretary, Mr E. Kirkcaldy; choir leader, Mr C. M.'tnch-jstei:; and a committea of twelve.
It whs intimsted that a strong choir was being formou to assist as temperance meetings during the ensuing year. •Communicvt ona were received from the New Zea'and Alliance, in reference to the visits to the Waimate of Mr J. G. Woolley, of America, and Miss Roberts, one of the Allianoe agents. Sub-committees were appointed to make arrangements for the reception of Mr 'Voolley, and for a series of meetings to be addrsssod by Miss Roberts in the country districts.
Intimation was received of a proposal to form a provincial district union, and it was decided to fall in with the proposal. It was resolved to hold monthly meetings of the committee for the transaction of business, Mid Mr G. Manchester offered the use of a room for the meetings. The offer was accepted with thanks. It was announced that tickets for Mr Wcolley's lecture wore selling rapidly.
