The Returning Troops.

Invercargill, July 8. Matters in connection with the arrival of the Tagus are in a state of complete muddlement. With the weather now prevailing, sleet and • now squalls, it is possible that the master of the ship will not come through the strait, and she may turn up off Otago Heads on Wednesday. If so, it will be Thursday at the earliest before the steanier gets back to the Bluff, and perhaps too late in the day so land the men and give them the reception which is being prepared for them. The weather to-night is Vicious, sleety snow falling and a strong westerly wind blowing. News from the -Bluff states that there was no sign of the Tagus in the straits last evening. Four inches of snow fell at Invercargill yesterday morning, but it speedily thawed, and a sleety rain was failing last night. Dunedin, July 9.

The Entertainment Committee’s recaption to the returned troopers will take the form of a social ami dance, interspersed wiih musical items. It is agreed that no intoxicating liquors bo supplied. Accommodation has already been arranged for 130 men for the night. Mr McNab, M H.R., whose practical patriotism in donating £SOO was responsible for the equipment of fifteen Gore men, will bo present at the reception to be held there.
