Bridging the Waitaki.

About forty Redcliff residents assembled at the Redoliff Hotel on Thursday, evening to consider th proposal of bringing the Waitaki river near she £tuue waif on the main iWaituki road. Messrs Steward. and J. P. Douglas {county chairman) were present by invitation. Mr Douglas was voted to the* chair, and explained at soma length the object of the meeting, and the various interests affected by the proposed work. An interesting discussion fol lowed, and a considerable amount ol*. information elicited. Major Steward in reply to a qaestioi as to what Government assistance might bs expected, suggested severe * tat ter native schemes which might wit! sad vantage be examined into, and [gromised his support to any practicable p?Bposal such as might give railway connection with Glenavy, exiciulon o'. Wnibao Dawns branch line, and monorail bridge to Jackson’s siding on the Duntroon side of the river. A committee of five was subsequently appointed to collect information on the several proposals and report to a general meeting. A hearty vote oi thanks to the Hon, Major kite ward and Mr Douglas concluded the business of the meeting.
