The Rival Cables.

Melbourne, March 1. The Agont-General has cabled that the Pacific Gable Board considered that the agroeiuet made by tho New South Wales Government with tho Eastern Extension Telegraph Company was prejudical to the Pacific cable scheme, and recommended to Mr Chamberlain that a conference of tie Governments interested should be held to discuss the effect of the agreement. Tho Agent-General suggests that lie should see Mr Chamberlain and urge that Victoria should be placed on the same footing, and should be permitted to make the same concessions as New South Wales. Thou, in the event of the proposed conference being held, the decisions should apply to Victoria equally with New South Wales.
