A new telegraph line from Laku to Tientsin was opened on the 20th of December last. It is in conneo ion with the neutral cable from Shanghai to Taku, ana will shortly be extended to Pekin, and thence overland to Kiakhjta, giving an independent alternative route from China to Europe.
