Terrible Blizzard in Russia.
St Petersburg, January l 4
A terrible blizzard has raged for a week in South Russia.
Six trains and 5000 passengers were snowbound at Razdyelaia, and nearly starved. After digging for three days* 1000 soldiers from Kieff and Odessa, succeeded in enabling two trains with 2000 passengers to proceed. After 18 hours, the stock of firewood on the train became exhausted, and a perfect pandemonium reigned, thesuffer* ings being terrible. Sixty passengers, headed by Count Kapnist, started on foot, and reached a station, opening up communication with Odessa. The Governor at once dispatched sledges with food. Many passengers became delirious, and many were frost-bitten. It is feared that over 100 succumbed.
The storm is abating, 18,000 soldiers are still hard at wordv The fate of the rest of the trains at Razdyeldia is unknown.
