Magistrate's Court. (Before Major Keddell, S.M.) Thursday, October 25, 1900

Police v. Patrick Spillano on a charge of supplying drink to a prohibited person. Accused pleaded not gailty. Constable Parker gave evidence as to the granting of tho prohibition ordep. Mrs Porter deposed to supplying Spillanowith a bottle of whisky on October 10. Donald Ross, sworn, was a prohibited p9rsoa. Remembered October 10th ; was speaking to accused on that day, but did not xeui&mber receiving ; drink from Spillane on that day. Constable G-ough deposed to arresting Ross for drunkennes3 on Oct. 10th and from what Ro3s told him | had laid the information against Spillane. His Worship thought the polico were quite justified in bringing the ' action, but such cesses are very difficult to prove, though there may be, as in the present case, a story suspicion of guilt. The accused would be discharged for lack of evidence, "Elizabeth X light v George Knight asking tbj,t defendant (her son) might contribute something to her support. Mr Hamilton for plaintiff. No appearance of defendant. Elizabeth Knight, oalled, deposed to no& being able to support herself. Her husband was in a receipt oi an old ago pension and a younger son allowed her 5s per week. Had no other souroe of income. An order was made 'for 5s per week. Defendant to pay costs and solicitor's fee 10s 6d. B. T. George v Wca, Young on a charge of allowing cattle to trespass on the county roads at Hook. Mr Hamilton for informaat. Defendant pleaded guilty. His Worship thought; this nuisance should be put down aa horses on the roads were apt to get into crops, etc . A fine of 15s would be inflicted with costs of court 7s, and solicitor's fee 10s 6d. Guinness and LeCron v. M. Thyne claim £35 15s. Tbwe was no appearanoe of the defendant. Mr Hamilton appeared for the plaintiffs, for whom judgment was given with court costs 23s and solietor's fee 21s. George Paris (Mr Hamilton)' v. A. Senery (Mr Clement). Mr Clement askod for a month's 'adjournment on account of illness of defendant, which was granted on payment of costs 18s 4d.
