Studholme Mounted Rifles.
On Thursday afternoon last, the parade of the above was fixed to be held, but owing to the damp, cold afternoon, very few tnmod up. Ho - ever, a little dismounted drill was gone through, and those who did brave the elements were nob unrewarded in their ■ quest for instruction. j After the parade, at about six o'clock, the members proceeded to St. Augustine's schoolroom, where a dinner, had been provided fey Captain Garland for the members of the company. Mr Jawaes Symon had charge of the commissariat, and members expressed their appreciation by deeds, not words. When all justice had been done to the eatables, Captain Garland proposed the first toast, that of the Queen, which was drunk witfe enthusiasm. Lieutenant Studholme proposed the health of Captain Garland, their host, and on that gentleman responding he waa cheered to the echo. Captain Garland then read out the appointments, which had been made in the corps, as follows ; — Sergt.-Major Mostyn Jones -to be junior subaltern, Quartermaster-Sergeant Henderson to be Sergt. -Major, Sergeant Fisher to be Quartermaster Sergeant, Corporal Samuels to be Sergeant, and Troopers Stuaholrae, 3. W. Freeman, and Co%van to be Corporals. The evening waa then given over to amusement, songs being sung by Sergt. Fisher and Troopers Horley j W. Philip, and T. Hardy, Corporal Samuela gave a recitation, and Trooper Cowan was to the front with two, both of which brought down the house. A verj' enjoyable evening wa<s brought to an end about 10 o'clock, . all having spent a thoroughly good time.
