PRIVILEGES OF MEDICAL MEN.
At the Kaiapoi Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr H. 'W. Bishop, S,M., and the' Mayor, H. C. Parsons, medical 1 practitioner, was charged wuh having committed a breach of the by-laws by riding his bicycle on a footpath on May 6. Mr Papprill appealed for defendant, and contended that when a doctor was needed for an urgent csse he ought to be allowed to go as quickly as possible. Counsel further contended that in case of an operation being necessary, a doctor's nerves ought to be steady, and, therefore, if a road were shingled or covered with stones he should be allowed to avoid it and to rid-e on any footpath. The defendant stated that the case he was riding to attend was of a serious nature, and he found, when he rea6hed the Cain bridge chat there was an obstacle on the road, so he took the path. ' Tte Magistrate said he was quite sure tuat Dr Parsons would not wilfully violate tho law, but ho could make no distinction. Defendant' was then con\icted and was ordered to £ay the costs, which amounted to 7s.
