From the Timaru Herald's report we take the following, of interest to Waimate readers : — The architect reported on repairs requirements at Hilton and Hunters, and on alterations of desks at Waimate. The match-lining of the worst part of the ceiling at Waimate was completed, also repairs at Winchester, works at Waitohi Flat and Milford. An offer by It. L. Wilson to cut down 14 desks at Waimate and shift seats as required for £4 10s was accepted. The Building Committee recommended that ceitain repairs, etc., be carried out at Watoiataitai, Burkes Pass and Hunters ; total estimate That residences be erected at Arunnl&l and Springbrook, the maximum cost of both not to exceed 45500. If the site at Sprungbrook should be deemed unsuitable, then one of the two buildings to be erected at Glenavy. Messrs Sealey (chairman), Hawkey and Cross, membeis of the Tiinaju South School Committee, waited on the Board to urge that Mr Valentine be appointed to the headraastership o£ their school rather than either of the two selected by the Board. All throe spoke and expressed the unanimous wish of the School Committee" Their remarks and a subsequent long discussion by the Board were taken in committee. Messrs Talbot and Keith "mored — '• That tha Board having duly considered the representations of the Timaru South School Committee in the matter of the appointment of a headmaster of their school, accede to their wishes and appoint Mr Valentine to the post." Messrs Barclay and Jackson moved an amendment that Mr Blake be appointed. — Lost, only mover and seconder voting for it.
