AWAPUNI TRACK WORK
TEAM OF FIVE FOR BELLS Except for the mist, which dampened everything, the weather was fine for track work at Trentham yesterday morning, writes “Rangatira” in the Evening Post. The tracks are now very hard, and only the plough and the outside of the course proper are being used for galloping. Trentham stables will be represented at Bulls on Saturday only by five horses whom T. R. George will be taking. The other horses nominated, including Siegmund, wiH not be making the trip. Dungarvan (A. W. Sim), Galtecmore (A. E. Bennett), add Peerless (W. Doyle) were sent nine furlongs, and they were completely lost in the mist till they were picked up again near the finish. Dungarvan was then a length ahea I of Galteemore, with Peerless four or five lengths back, and the last mile had taken them Imin. 44sec. Dungarvan and Galteemore will contest, the Rangitikei Cup, but Peerless will probably forgo the trip and travel instead to New Plymouth next week. If available, B. H. Morris will ride Dungarvan. S. T. Edwards has been engaged for Galteemore. Trebor, Drachma, and Ruling Star, who were racing at. Wanganui, were allotted only light tasks. They will be accompanying Dungarvan and Galtecmore to Bulls, but no rider has yet been secured for any of them. Trentham stables will have the Carterton meeting on Saturday week practically to themselves. The nominations for the meeting were disappointing, but as all the Trentham horses are likely to be there the club should be able to carry on with the fixture and enjoy a successful outcome.
