TRENTHAM TRACK WORK

TRIALS FOR BULLS SUDAN’S GOOD MILE. Sudan, who is engaged in the disdanace hack event at Bulls and has made such a rapid improvement of late that at present she is a distinct prospect for the New Zealand Oaks this year, was responsible for an exceptionally good gallop at the Awapuni track yesterday morning, when she was sent over a mile with Beaupartir. Sudan (Tattersail), who put in a great* finishing run at the end of her race at Woodville and now appears to be properly tuned up, set off at a very fast pace to run a mile in company with Beaupartir on the plough, and the pair of them made the pace very torrid for the first six furlongs, which they cut out in about 1.18. They finished on strongly together at the end of the mile in 1.46. No use was made of the course proper, which is very hard and badly in need of rain. All the galloping was done on the plough, which was very fast. Most of the early horses out were confined to pace-work, a thick fog shrouding the course for some time. Royal Choice, who is engaged in the Rangitikei Cup, ran seven furlongs in 1.345, while the fog was still hanging very low. Rarotonga, with a light boy up, did a mile in 1.47. Snigger (Tattersail) and Colonel Bogey (Chaplin) took 41 l-ssec. for the last three furlongs of half a mile. Brazil (Ireland), going well, surprised watchers by finishing in front of Lady Ina over five furlongs in 1.5, yet he has failed badly in class, despite his very satisfactory track gallops. He is to be tried over a distance. Renascor (Kilmister) and Cuddler (Tat’ersall) covered the last three of four furlongs in 40asec. Aurora’s Star (Temperton) beat Thrasos (Anderson) over five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. Dainty Sue (Tattersail) and Golden Ridge (Ireland* went a mile together taking 1.31 for the last seven furlongs. Dainty Sue is to resume in the Rangitikei Cup, but may be in need of a race, as she has not had an outing since the Stratford meeting. Catalogue is still doing trotting exercise, and the tasks of Conveyer are being restricted to pacework. Should the latter be put to jumping this winter, it appears that he would be very useful in this department. Riding Engagements. Riding engagements so far announced for the Rangitikei meeting are F. Cleaver, Golden Ridge. G. R. Tattersail. —Vadanoe, Trebor, Renascor. B. H. Morris.—Sudan. A. McDonald.—Taumau. R. Ireland.—Brazil. S. Anderson.—Thrasos.
