MASTER BRIERLY FINISHES BRILLIANTLY
SURPRISE BY NINE-YEAR-OLD HOT BOX'S GOOD EFFORT The nine-year-old Master Brierly brought off a surprise in the President’s Handicap at Te Aroha on Monday when he finished brilliantly on the outside from the rear to win from Hot Box. Master Brierly’s prospects appeared to be far from bright when he was tailing the field, but he came with a run reminiscent of his best and was going away just on the post.
Hot Box was responsible for another good effort, and he might have won if he had not been forced to cover a lot of ground in the early and middle stages. Scotland, favoured with a beautiful run on the rails, looked dangerous as the field straightened up, but he received a check in the run home, and the best he could do was third. Kena made a good showing for fourth, while Golden Sheila and Round Up were well in the picture at the distance, where the field was spread across the course.
