PLANS FOR ROYAL CHIEF

MAY RACE AT TRENTHAM AWAPUNI GOLD CUP HIS MISSION In case Royal Chief may need a race before tackling the Awapuni Gold Cup. a weight-for-age race over a mile and a-quarter at the Manawatu meetirig next month, he is to be nominated for the mile Thompson and mile and three furlongs Autumn Handicaps at Trentham. It is by no means certain that lhe Chief Ruler horse will be called on to race, the measure being a precautionary one. and a decision will probably be left till late. Prior to the Dunedin meeting Royal Chief had been working well, but his running in the Dunedin Cup, in which he finished last, was too poor to be accountable for by lack of a race. There was obviously something amiss with him at the time, and though he won the Hazlett Gold Cup. there was still room for improvement. Of late Royal Chief has had a few sprints and he should be in great order for any tasks set him next month.
