GIFT EVENING. (Own Correspondent) MANGAWEKA, Feb. 28. | On Friday evening the man; friends of Miss Ida Dickinson and Mr. K. Shaw met in the Max Theatre and tendered them a gift evening in view of their forthcoming marriage. Mr. H. Brewer proved himself a good M.C. and lively music was supplied by Messrs. D. Marsh and Henson, Miss Gwen Reid supplying the extras. After a dainty supper, Mr. A. Millner asked the young couple to accept, on behalf of those present, the numerous array of gifts that filled the floor of the stage. Mr. K. Shaw suitably responded. School Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was held and accounts amounting to ii 15s Sd were passed for payment. It was decided to write to the Education Board for financial assista suitable centre lor swijnming inance towards transporting pupils to struction. It was also decided carry out the improvements as suggested in the headmaster's report. The secretary was authorised to write to the secretary of St. Martin’s Church pointing out the condition of the fence between the Vicarage and the school horse paddock. Messrs. L. Bailey and M. Sutherland were appointed visiting committee for the month. CROQUET The members of the Marton Club visited Mangaweka during the week and played a challenge match for the Simpson Cup. Very enjoyable games were played during the day and resulted in Marton taking the Simpson Cup back with them. Following are the results of the games. Mesdames D. Watkins and M. Sutherland lost to Mesdames Williams and Mclndoe 19—26; Mesdames A. Bailey and L. Mahoney won from Mesdames True and Evans, 26—18, Mesdames Watkins and Sutherland 14, Mesdames Williams and Mclndoe 14 (call game); Mesdames A. Bailey and L. Mahoney lost to Mrs. True and Evans, 20—26.
