BASEBALL AT TAIHAPE
WANGANUI TEAMS’ VISIT EXHIBITION MATCH PLAYED (Om Correspondent) TAIHAPE, Feb. 28. Two baseball teams from Wanganui visited Taihape during the week-end. Merewethers defeated a Taihape team by 38 points to 17, but although beaten by such a big margin, the local players learned a great deal from their more experienced opponents. The game is in its infancy here. Taihape were represented by the following team: G. Morgan (catcher), E. Smith (first base), A. Floyd (second base), E. Walker (third base), F. Fisher (pitcher), P. Beauchamp (short stop), Hyland (right outfield), F. Connell (rover), C. Gregory (left outfield), G. Wham (centre outfield). An exhibition match between Merewethers and Star, the two visiting Wanganui teams, proved most enjoyable and instructive, and Taihape baseball players and supporters took a keen interest in the play. The match served to illustrate the finer points of the game, and its educational value should help considerably towards the progress of baseball in this district. The Wanganui teams looked very smart in their bright coloured jerseys, and created a most favourable impression. After the exhibition match, the local teams (ladies and men) were coached by the visitors, and are looking forward to the next visit of Merewethers and Star to Taihape.
