STAFF PICNIC

The firm of Tom Russell, plumbers, etc., held their fourth annual picnic at “Whiritoa,” the property of Mr. A. M. Campbell, Kaitoke, during the week-end. About 90 people motored to the site, on which there is a beautiful lake, where swimming and boating were enjoyed by many of those present. The whole of the catering, including ice cream, soft drirfks, fruit and lollies was provided by the staff.

The novelty events caused a goou deal of merriment, the main feature of the racing events being the competition for a handsome cup donated by D. McFarlane and Co., for the best aggregate of wins among the staff only. This was won by Miss A. Liddell, who also won the fountain pen presented by the firm for the winner of the staff race, a most popular win. The electric jug, presented by Messrs. A. and T. Burt, Ltd., for the winner of a race for the wives and sweethearts of staff members, was won by Miss Jamieson. The tug-of-war, and the relay race staff versus visitors, caused a lot of fun and resulted in a win for each side.

The committee desire to specially thank Mr. A. M. Campbell for the use of the grounds, Messrs. D. McFarlane and Co., and Messrs. A. and T.
