GALA DAY AT PATEA
SEASIDE IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY (Own Correspondent). Excellent weather, combined with an enthusiastic crowd, made the Seaside Improvement Society’s Gala an outstanding success in the Patea Domain on Saturday. There was a variety of entertainment to suit everyone in the side shows, races for the children, musical items by the band, and excellent poi dances and choir singing by the Maori Party. Mr. J. C. Cunnison's radio apparatus provided bright music at intervals. The president (Mr. H. Peacocke) together with the secretary (Mr. H. Boagey) are to be congratulated on their efforts, with a hard-working committee to assist. The entertainment was continued in the evening, concluding with a dance at which the music was supplied by the Maori Orchestra. The Christiansen brothers gave a piano accordian item, and Mr. T. Marsh, recently returned with the "Waiata Maori Choir,” sang solos.
Competitions resulted: “Hidden Treasure,” Mrs. D. Ansley (for cake donated by Mr. Hopkins); art bowl, Mrs. L. Smith; box of chocolates, Mr. W. Bond; cake (donated by Mr. E. Reed), Allan Richards; bath salts. Miss B. Kuhfuss.
