AN INTERESTING EVENT

RESCUE WORK (Own Correspondent) An interesting event was staged by the members of the Marton Volunteer Fire Brigade in conjunction with the Marton Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade on the Marton Park on Saturday afternoon in continuance of the Physical Fitness Week. The brigade’s part was a rescue event through smoke. The ambulance members gave a demonstration in first aid work to those suffering from smoke, burns and broken limbs. Both events were watched with interest. The fire engine was nicely polished and the brigade members in smart uniforms and brass helmets and the St. John Ambulance members in their neat uniform added greatly to the scene, which was watched with great interest and attention. The Huntley School pupils gave a wonderful display of physical drill, the movements being carried out with great precision. The Maori Girls’ College pupils gave several interesting displays of Maori action songs and poi dances, whilst the Boy Scouts carried out a bivouac display. 4
