WANGANUI BASEBALL

RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY RESUMPTION OF COMPETITION Teams in the Wanganui Baseball Association resumed their competitions on Saturday. Results:— United (23) v. Merewethers (16) United 6 6 1 0 5 4 1 Merewethers ... 0 0 4 5 1 3 .3 Home Run.—Merewethers, MacFarlane (1). In this game United won largely on their fielding and pitching, keeping Merewethers’ runs down. Batting was steady. Merewethers’ play was patchy and batting rather poor. Wanganui East (26) v. Star A (20) Wanganui East 0 7 2 5 2 3 7 Star A .. 3 9 2 1 4 1 0 This was one of the slowest games of the day . Star A’s pitcher, J. Broad, was absent, and also E. Hamling, these two would probably have made the difference to Star’s performance. Wanganui East has greatly improved, however, and played steadily.

Pirates (16) v. Harrier A (10) Pirates 3 0 6 0 6 1 0 Harrier A 2 3 0 1 1 3 0 Home Run.—Harrier A, Sherlock (D. Harrier A lacked combination, and if they had got down to it and played baseball, they would have upheld their prestige. However, batting by this team, and fielding by Shand, was excellent. Pirates’ competition was good, and they played good steady baseball all through. Watersiders B (39) v. Harrier B (15) Watersiders B ... 18 4 0 0 5 11 1 Harrier B. 171-150 Home Run.—Watersiders B. Glossop (1). For Harrier B the pitching was very inconsistent, and the fielding poor. Batting was quite fair. Watersiders’ batting was quite good also. They scored on their opposition's weaknesses. A. Liddell, Watersiders’ captain, had the distinction of scoring the most runs in Wanganui baseball on Saturday, his total being 6. Sash and Door (35) v. Watersiders A (15) Sash and Door 3 12 2 6 6 2 3 Watersiders A 162104 1 Home Run.—Sash and Door, H. Gowan (1). Watersiders A lost this game mainly through poor combination. They have the lalent if they had more practice. Sash and Door’s batting was good, as also was the fielding and pitching. Star B won by default from P. and T.
