TEST OF DEFENCES
THE FRENCH BORDER MAGINOT LINE TO BE “ATTACKED” PARIS, Feb. 21. France's eastern border, including the Maginot Line and the fortified cities of Metz and Thionville, will be blacked out on the evening of February 22 for passive defence exercise?,, approximating the conditions of a military attack from Germany. Planewill attack the Maginot Line and test anti-aircraft defences. Similar manoeuvres occurred at Lyons last night, based on the theory of an attack across the Alps to central France. It is understood that the operations are destined to give the general staff an indication of France’s strength against a combined attack by Italy and Germany.
